1 in 4
Lives Affected

In the UK, allergies are quite prevalent, affecting a significant portion of the population. About 1 in 4 people (25%) experience allergies at some point in their lives. This includes various types of allergies such as food allergies, skin allergies, respiratory allergies, and reactions to insect stings.

Food allergies alone impact approximately 2.4 million people in the UK, with 600,000 individuals diagnosed with Coeliac Disease, a condition triggered by gluten. Allergies can lead to severe reactions, including anaphylaxis, which is potentially life-threatening.

It's estimated that half a million people in the UK have experienced an anaphylactic reaction due to venom from insects like bees and wasps.

Allergic rhinitis (hay fever) is also common, affecting between 10-26% of the population, with significant variation across different age groups and regions.

Skin allergies, including atopic eczema, affect about 15-20% of school-aged children and 2-10% of adults.
